Boulevards Design

The north south streets running through Te Aro are currently important streets for getting in and out of the city.  These streets however are not performing as well as they could be largely due to buildings, kerbs and footpaths not aligning, street blocks being too big, too few areas of interest and sight lines making it hard to navigate for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.

In effect these streets are merely acting as corridors rather than as spaces where people stop and occupy for any other reason.  This project involves creating a boulevard strategy— defining a clear identity and plan for each of these streets.  The strategy would be delivered incrementally over a period of time depending on what developments are due to take place in these streets and what developers and property owners are willing to innovate and contribute.

The strategy would aim to sustain the capacity of the existing streets.
